Picture the scene: Queueing in Poundland with 1 item, its 10 to 9 (I officially start work at 9), I am 5 minutes walk from work, the person in front of me has TWO - yes TWO trollies full of groceries, she knows the cashier, they chat, and they chat, and they chat, eventually she gets a large carrier bag and spends about 30 seconds shaking it open, they chat some more. Sigh....
At this point, GOW leans forward and says politely (yes, I know, but honest guvnor I was polite) 'would anyone mind dreadfully if I queue jump as I have just one item and the correct money and I am now late for work' - stunned silence. The clock ticks, the 2 women stare at each other in amazement. 'Well' says the cashier 'I dont see why not'. My faith in human nature is restored and for once, I AM NOT GRUMPY!

Good question.... not sure I can justify that ...
