Disgusted of Bury St Edmunds

Went for a meal at my local Ember Inns last night.

Am still using a stick and cant sit for long without elevating my leg so was quite pleased when I discovered that the Moreton Hall pub had a disabled toilet. Expected it to be clean and tidy with an elevated toilet seat with arm rests to help me stand.

Was sorely disappointed - not to say disgusted,

1. Member of staff didnt know where key was
2. Had to leave door open so I didnt get stuck in there
3. No elevated seat, no arm rests
4. On lifting the lid and seat I found the toilet was covered in both pee and poo.
5. Decided to wash my hands and try my luck in the normal toilets (which are always spotless) - tap turned to full and emitted a splutter of water only.
6. Couldnt see any soap or handwash
7. Clutch of damp paper towels on edge of sink
8. Bin did not have pedal so had to lift lid with fingers

Limped to bar to register my complaint. Member of staff expressed surprise as she said 'The managers wife cleans that loo daily'. I suggested it hadnt been cleaned lately. She went to look, came back and announced that the water mark was dark due to the local water. She couldnt see any pee or poo!!!!! When I suggested she look again she shrugged and marched off.

Not happy bunny. What do you think? Is it acceptable to ignore the disabled toilet just because it is rarely used?

A few years ago a friend had motor neurone disease and was in a wheelchair but still managed to get to the pub once a week. Disabled toilet had no light and was used as a storeroom. Only healthy fully mobile people are supposed to go to the pub apparantly.

Hi Grumps, Glad to see that at least you are able to get out for a while... This toilet thing really gets me too ! I have a feeling that most folk don't bother to complain - so these places get away with it...

There's nothing like complaining as far as I'm concerned I just love taking ignorant, cheeky and uninterested staff to task. If nobody complains then nothing changes! Good for you missus, the stupid beggars have no idea how much bugs can do damage to folk!

Totally unacceptable, maybe the landlords wife had the key. Still thats no excuse, no doubt the local staff felt it was some one esles problem.

Thanks people -I was very miffed about the 'facilities' but I am in the lucky position of only being temporarily disabled.

Another 'annoyance' was the heavy door into the waiting room at my doctors surgery which I found impossible to open while using 2 sticks - the nurse was stunned and said no-one had every mentioned it before!!!

The world needs moaners like me.
